MATT BRABHAM RULES WEEKEND OF RACES AT SPRING MOUNTAIN
Henry Morse pads his lead in the Sprint Series Championship while Bill Hynes holds onto lead in the Endurance Series.
LAS VEGAS, September 15-17 – Young Australian Matt Brabham has taken the EXR Sprint Series by storm as well as added a victory in the Endurance Series by winning all three EXR Racing Series rounds at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Nevada. The treble of wins comes after a dominant double win at the previous rounds in Utah. Five-time Sprint Series race winner Henry Morse, extended his lead in the championship table with a second and third place finish. Bill Hynes teamed for the win with Brabham in the Endurance Series race to also hold his lead atop the Endurance Series standings.
The first race of the weekend was Round 11of the Sprint Series championship. Brabham took the victory in the 9-lap contest over Henry Morse by 10.733 seconds. Morse in turn finished with a comfortable gap over third-place finisher Nick Parmelee. David Perisset secured fourth place to keep his title flame lit, trailing Morse by 40 points in second place. Fifth place in the race went to Mark Ramsey while Hynes came home in sixth place. Rounding out the field were David Mathey, Kristofer Jensen, JJ Bell and Richard Wendell in that order. Those four drivers enjoyed multiple, spirited battles among each other throughout the race.
Round 12 of the Sprint Series took place that afternoon with the same podium as round 11, only this time Parmelee got the better of Morse to trade steps, finishing in second and third place respectively. Brabham’s winning margin this time was slightly narrower at 8.326 seconds. In a copy of the previous day, fourth through sixth place was again in the order of Perriset, Ramsey and Hynes. The same went for Mathey, Jensen, Bell and Wendell who replicated their finishing positions from the day before.
The Endurance Race on Saturday evening was a 1-hour timed race with Pro and Am drivers paring up to form a team. Braham and Hynes pulled out the win with only 2.5 seconds to spare over the duo of Romain Thievin and Mathey. Bell and Parmelee took the final spot on the podium coming ahead of Ramsey and Perisset. Completing the field was Pro driver Pierre Preville who teamed with Rod Fuller. The pair had to retire due mechanical problems. In all, following the intense hour of racing, the entire field was only separated by 16 seconds.
Next up for the EXR Racing will be a three and a half hour endurance race at Sonoma Raceway in California on October 27-28. The Sprint Series will reconvene for the series’ finale back at Spring Mountain Motorsport Ranch on November 10 and 11.
