Fast and nimble cars; team operations flawless
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 21, 2016) — A successful EXR Racing Series test of cars and crew operations this weekend saw the team take a bonus win in the SCCA regional event at the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The victory by series co-founder Romain Thievin gave an additional boost to a weekend intended to provide the EXR Racing Series organization with a chance to rehearse operations under real racing conditions. The arrive-and-drive spec series welcomes customers to its season opener at Circuit of the Americas April 29-May 1.
“It was an excellent dry run for our team on everything from pre-race car prep to servicing between sessions and refining how we handle a fleet of customer cars at an event,” said series CEO Erik Skirmants. “It was a resounding success and we’re very excited about welcoming drivers to the first round in Texas.”
The double regional, hosted by the San Francisco Region SCCA, also served as the U.S. competition debut for the series’ new spec cars: the EXR LV02 and EXR LV03. In a stacked field that included a number of powerful Porsche GT cars, the purpose-built EXR LV02 and EXR LV03 machines showed their capabilities with nimble handling and frequent passing through turns, including the track’s famed Corkscrew.
“The car is a complete blast to drive,” said series sporting advisor Tristan Vautier, who piloted a 230 horsepower EXR LV02 spec racer to a best finish of fourth overall on Sunday. “It handles so well and we were able to carry high speeds through the corners and make some very aggressive passes with absolute confidence.”
In addition to perfectly executing his duties as team manager, Alex Premat dueled with Vautier on track in a second EXR LV02. The champion drivers were a thrill to watch on track as they diced for position. In the EXR LV03, Thievin was dominant, nabbing pole and winning both races outright.
“It was great to get the EXR LV03 out on track with other race cars and see its outstanding performance in the time sheets,” said Thievin. “It’s always a thrill to post a fast lap and it’s thanks to the capabilities of this car that I was able to be at the top of the leaderboard all weekend long.”
The EXR Racing Series offers accessible arrive-and-drive racing, with 16 exciting spec races planned for its inaugural season at some of the most iconic motorsport facilities in the United States, hosted by Speed Ventures. Competition takes the form of either Sprint or Endurance races in the EXR LV02 race car. The series also offers licensing courses, lapping sessions and time attack competition. The EXR Racing Series opener is set for April 29-May 1 at Circuit of the Americas. Drivers will have the opportunity to participate in an open track day and double sprint competitions on the Grand Prix track. The EXR Racing Series returns to the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to run the second arrive-and-drive stop of the season a month later.
